THE REALITY OF DIVORCE “HAS
VISITED THE CHURCH”
As Divorce Rates Rise Among Christians, Influential
Pastor’s New Pure Love CD Shows Couples That
Spirituality Is Missing Piece in Successful Relationships
“Reality has visited the church,” says Bishop
David G. Evans, pastor of the 27,000-member Bethany Baptist Church
in Lindenwold, NJ. “In the past, people were willing to maintain
an image of happiness because of the stigma attached to challenged
relationships in the church. As Christians we often concentrate on
what should be and ignore present realities. Some people do not get
married for the right reasons and problems result for everyone involved.”
Evans has compiled a CD of inspiring love songs entitled Pure
Love (Abundant Harvest Entertainment) that is
designed to remind couples that faith is the key to avoid
divorce and forge strong marriages. “Love is not just
physical and emotional,” he cautions. “It is certainly
a spiritual quality when it is right between two people. Much
of what we hear on the radio today is not that kind of spiritual
love. Real love, pure love, looks for
the best and wants the best for those we love. It is time for
music that speaks to our romantic interests without distorting
the true meaning of love. That's what Pure Love is
all about.”
Among the highlights is Stellar Award nominee, gospel
syndicated radio and TV host Lonnie Hunter’s “In Your
Face” that is being serviced to Urban Adult Contemporary radio
while New Jersey native Johnnie Vaughn’s urgent cry for divine
intervention “Change Me” is being pushed at gospel radio. The
Houston-based trio, Nash 3, contributes the poignant tale of a widower
on “I Still Want You” that is taking off at country radio.
Then, there’s Sam Mizzell, who has produced American Idol winner
Jordin Sparks. He brings the balmy “Baby You Got That
Something” that is being worked at HOT Adult Contemporary and
pop radio formats.
The 15-track CD is IN STORES NOW!!!with distribution via Universal
Christian Music Group.
Bishop Evans, who wrote the best-selling book Healed
Without Scars and the newly released Second #1
bestseller Dare to Be A Man (Putnam),
says there is hope for estranged couples. “The problem
can be reversed if people start with the right person and allow
themselves time to get to know that person,” he explains. “A
couple of years of conversation, experiences, stresses and
observation are a small investment for a successful 40 year
relationship.”
